Latest News

Hey guys,

Sorry for the website the last couple weeks. Just had some trouble uploading stats and all that kinda stuff. The stats as they are now should be right. If you have any individual issues with your stats, just shoot me a comment. The last couple of weeks have been great… there is some great parity in the league this year. Thanks for your effort in keeping the play a little bit cleaner.

We WILL be having a XBOX NHL 10 Tournament at a later time. It just didnt work out for that weekend, so we’ve had to push it back to sometime in April. Keep your eyes and ears open for more information.

I’d like to thank you guys for actually checking this site. I put a analytics plug-in on it a couple weeks ago and in just the first 2 weeks of tracking the website usage we have already hit over 500 site visits with 1500 page views. Good to know you guys are gonna be checking. I’ll try and write more stuff for you all. With that said, if anyone has any extra time and would like to write an article about the league, feel free to write about a page… and send it to me. I’d love some more creativity from everyone… maybe about the playoff race heating up or something.

See you all Thursday night.

Rules Clarification

Hey guys,

Great first week of the season. I think the site is pretty updated. Let me know if you find anything that still needs an update. I thought I would clarify some of the rules we have for the league…

  1. 3 Second Rule – This rule is in place so that after the goalie covers the ball, after the ball goes out of play and after a penalty, the controlling team has a window of time to play the ball. Once the goalie uncovers the ball, he must pass it off to one of the defenders. Once the ball is played by the defender, the opposing team can count to 3 slowly. After 3, the ball is in play. The goalie can play the puck, but once he makes a move to play the puck, he is considered a defender, and the 3 second count can start. At the outset of a penalty or when the ball is brought back into play, the controlling team must play the ball from their own half. The team who is counting to 3, must remain 2 stick lengths away from ball until it is brought back into play.
  2. High Sticking – High sticking is any stick contact above the crossbar. If a stick contacts a ball, it is a 1 min. penalty. If a stick contacts another body, it is a 1 min. penalty. If blood is drawn, it is a 2 min. penalty.
  3. Slap Shots – The wind-up of a slapshot must remain below the waist. The measurement is the stick HEEL. If the blade comes about the waist it is not considered a slapshot.
  4. Hand Passes – A team may use a hand pass only if the first touch after the hand pass remains in the defensive zone. If the ball is struck by a hand in either the offensive or defensive zone and next touched by a stick of the same team in their offensive zone, it is deemed a hand pass.
  5. Regular Hockey Penalties – Roughing, Hooking, Holding, Tripping and other regular hockey penalties will be called at the Ref’s discretion. Do not argue calls, ref’s are susceptible to human error, but for the most part call the game well. We love the sportsmanship, but if the ref says there is a penalty, please make your way off the floor ASAP.
  6. All Other Rules – For the most part, the Rules section of the website is fairly up to date. Check it and ask questions if you see something there that isn’t being called.

Now for something completely different…

I think after each week, we are going to go for wings as a group. Anyone who wants to come is invited after the last game of the night. The current plan is to go to the Alcove Sports Bar on Banff Trail. There is a wing deal til 11 PM. So if you want to come, you’re all welcome to. People who are not playing in the last game of the night will probably go down early and order so we can make it in time for the wing deal. Hopefully we can get to know each other outside of the hockey games this way.

Also, we are planning on having an NHL 10 XBOX tournament for guys in the league on March 6th. It will be happening in the church youth room, where there are a couple of TV’s and XBOX’s to play on. We will draw out of a hat for teams, then proceed to do a tournament to determine the best. There will be prizes and food. It’s free and covered in your league costs, so please come on out.

Don’t Forget

For tonight…

- BRING YOUR MONEY!!!

-This is the first week of the season

- We need an extra ref for each game, let me know if you want to volunteer

- Cut down the chippy play, whistles will be blowing

- Check the Schedule to make sure when you play

Official Decisions on this Season

Hey Everyone,

Great night last night. It was a great way to end the pre-season. With that I have some official business regarding this upcoming season…

1. I’ve decided that we are going to play with just 3 teams this year. I like the way the league is going but I still think it might be a bit early to try and make the jump to 4 teams. With that said I am capping registration. We have room for one more full-time player. Once I have filled that spot, it will be by a drop-in basis only.

2. What this means is that you NEED to get YOUR MONEY in ASAP. Yeah, I have your name down, but if I don’t have your money and someone else comes in with a full season of fees… they will replace you. You all have to get your money in by game time next week. If you don’t have your money in by next week your not eligible to play in the first week of the season.

3. Last night got a bit out of hand in regards to physical play. We will be cracking down on physical play on the boards, in the corners and in front of the nets. We all have to remember that this league, while meant to be competitive in nature, is also meant to be recreational. With that in mind, I’d rather not hear complaining about the physicality on the floor, if you are one of the culprits. So everyone, scale back their physical play a notch or two to ensure we can all still have fun.

4. With that said, I would like to ask all of your help. For each game, I would like to have 2 scorekeepers, as well as 2 refs. IF you would like to volunteer for any of these jobs on a given night, please let me know before play for the week begins. The more eyes we have, the better we can call the game.

5. Listen to your Captains… they are the people responsible on teams to make decisions. If you have a beef, tell them before you come to me. The captains are again: Cody Kemper & Mike Prins (Jets), Chad Utke (North Stars) and Chris Fraser (Rockies)

Thanks again to everyone. Please read through these, and check out the pre-season stats and stuff in all the other pages.

January 28th

So January 28th is the last week of the pre-season. We’ve had an influx of new players join in the last week, so we will be playing just as the schedule says… 3 games in our teams. But we might be forced to adjust the teams slightly to accomodate these new players. Please be there ON TIME tomorrow night so we can get all 3 games in, and a decision will be made as to how many teams we’ll have. If you need directions, please go to the FAQs page.
